3D and 4D Ultrasounds

Precious Moments Captured With 3-D & 4-D Ultrasound Imaging

Ultrasound imaging, also called sonography, is a method of obtaining images from inside the human body through the use of high-frequency sound waves. The reflected sound wave echoes are recorded and displayed to generate a visual image. Traditional ultrasound imaging is 2-dimensional; taken from a single angle.

However, technology has advanced and now imaging can be performed from a “volume” of data. Volume or 3-dimensional (3-D) imaging allows the ultrasound to collect data and convert it into a clear, spectacular image of the human anatomy. This 3-D imaging is especially useful for obstetric ultrasounds. It enables the technologist to provide glorious photos of your baby in fine detail. 4-D ultrasound is the same as looking at your baby in 3-D, but with live-action images. It is the difference between a still photograph (3-D) and a video (4-D). 4-D imaging provides the opportunity to view your baby as it moves about the womb.

3-D/4-D obstetric elective ultrasound imaging can be performed at Radiology & Imaging Specialists. Your baby’s features, sweet facial expressions, movements, and beating heart will be viewed and captured on our 37 in. flat panel television.
